The Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has continued to respond to the yearnings of the residents to make their roads motorable and connect communities by extending the road grading exercise to Ward B area in the council.

So far, Awobajo Street, Aboto Street, Olopemeta Phase 1, among others, have already been graded and made motorable.

According to the Media & Publicity Office of the Chairman, in a statement, he said that:

“The road grading exercise, which began at Amugbase Street in the Oriokuta community, is aimed at improving accessibility, enhancing transportation for farmers and traders, and easing movement for residents who rely heavily on these community roads for their daily activities.

“For many years, several of the affected roads had suffered neglect, particularly during the rainy season when they became difficult to navigate. This intervention comes in direct response to the long-standing concerns and appeals of residents for improved infrastructure”, the media office said.

Baale of Oriokuta Community, Chief Ibrahim Adebayo Seriki, commended the Council leadership and expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for providing the necessary machinery and manpower, noting that the effort would ensure quality road works that meet community’s expectations.

The Chief Whip of the Imota Legislative Arm and Councillor representing Ward B, Councilor Saidat Orewale, reaffirmed the commitment of the administration to infrastructural development, youth engagement, and community welfare. She urged residents to remain supportive and united as the LCDA continues on its path of collective progress.

Orewale emphasized that development is most impactful when government and citizens work together, stressing that leadership must be demonstrated through action rather than rhetoric. She assured residents that the road grading project is one of the several people-focused initiatives planned for the ward.

“Our people deserve the basic amenities that make life easier. I remain committed to ensuring that Ward B continues to progress. This road grading project is a promise fulfilled, and we thank our Executive Chairman for it.

“This kind of cooperation is what drives real change. It is a shining example of what purposeful, inclusive, and accountable grassroots leadership can achieve. The government has set the direction, and the people have responded with unity and support”, she said.

In his remarks, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Mr Kamilu Ogunnowo, expressed appreciation to the Chairman for the initiative, describing it as one of the most extensive community-driven infrastructural interventions undertaken in Imota LCDA in recent years.

Similarly, the Chairman of Oriokuta CDA, Mr. Muritala Salau, expressed gratitude for the project, stressing the importance of good road networks in rural and farming communities.

“Good roads mean better access to markets, schools, and hospitals. They reduce costs and increase productivity”, he said.

He added that the initiative would significantly boost agricultural productivity, economic activities, and access to markets for farmers within the area.

Community leaders, youths, and other stakeholders, who witnessed the commencement of work, described the project as a timely and much-needed intervention, while many others noted that it would bring relief to farmers transporting produce, school children, and families who depend on the roads daily.

Residents expressed optimism that the exercise will open up previously inaccessible parts of Oriokuta and stimulate increased economic activity. The grading exercise is expected to cover a wider network of roads across Ward B, ensuring that major clusters within the ward benefit from improved mobility.

The Council anticipates completing the grading works within 10 days, with minor extensions if necessary.
